Glue Sticks Needed!

Hello All!

As the school year continues, I've noticed that all of our glue sticks have disappeared! These are a needed supply since we use them every day for our interactive science notebooks. If you would like to donate some glue sticks it would be MUCH appreciated! :) I will be going to the store tonight and purchasing some as well. Hope you have a wonderful evening, and I will see you in the morning!

Today during science we checked our homework that was due, and went over that. We reviewed the chapter on inner planets (pg. 94-101) as well as did some guided notes to go along with it. After we had our short quiz on the inner planets. (Grades will all be put in after school). We also started learning about the Outer planets.

- finish the 4 notecards on the outer planets. Here is what needs to go on each card:

Front of Notecard:
- Name of planet
- A Drawing of the planet (colored)
- placement from sun

Back of notecard:
- Diameter
- Average distance from sun (au)
- Period of rotation (earth days)
- Period of revolution (Earth days)
- Number of moons

Hello!

Just want to remind you that the kids have a VERY short QUIZ on Monday over the inner planets. The kids have received a review sheet for this (that was homework and should be added to notebook).

It was awesome meeting most of you at conferences! It was great for me to find new ways to help your students in any way that I can.

Have a WONDERFUL holiday!!

Wednesday and Friday November 18th and 20th

Hello! So Sorry this is on Thursday!

Wednesday -- we finished our Sun packet, and watch a video on the Solar System. Our Notebooks were due either Wednesday or Friday. Most kids turned them in, and I graded them (showing the things they were missing). I told them I left the notebooks at school Today (thursday) so they could grab during or after school, make any corrections and return Friday for final grades. (This is the LAST grade for the trimester... so unfortunately cannot take it past Friday.) There was no homework.

Friday -- We are going to review the Sun a bit, and then start working on the inner planets! The students have worksheet that they are going to be working on throughout the lecture. There will most likely be no homework, if they complete everything in class! NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE today! Grades are going in after school Friday!

Have a great weekend, hope to see you all Monday or Tuesday at conferences!

Good Afternoon!

Today we started learning about the Sun. We took a few notes in our notebook and then we watched an awesome video on how NASA finally has a Ultra HD video of the Sun. Here is the link if you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tmbeLTHC_0

We started our Features of the Sun activity packet, and will finish on Wednesday during class.

Today we also had a quiz on the Formation of the Solar System. I also handed out the Notebook checklist -- which is due on WEDNESDAY or FRIDAY!! This will be the last 2 grades in the gradebook before trimester ends. Here is the checklist in case you lost, so you can make sure everything is in there:

Fun Filled Day!

Good Afternoon All!

Today was a pretty fun lab day. We had a lab called "Voyage! of Discovery" which had two parts. Part 1 was taking every day items (mostly spices, or certain foods) and exploring the planet sizes (one tenth-billonth of the size). Students found what all the planets size would be in relation to the Sun as a balloon. With this we really learned why models are so important in studying the solar system. Next we went outside (on this beautiful day, I must add) and paced out the distance of the planets using 1 meter = 845 million (real meters -- or actual). It was fun seeing how far these planets truly are from the sun.

Homework today:
1. Reflection Questions Worksheet (most finished and turned it at end of hour).
2. Read Pages 82-87 "Intro to Solar System." Write down vocabulary and definitions in notebook (part of notebook check) and do the Assess your understanding questions throughout the chapter #1,a,b and #2,a,b. (This will also be in notebook as part of notebook check).

See you all Wednesday!

Mrs. Lechner

p.s. starting today I will be putting a notebook checklist at the end of each day on the blog. (i.e. what should be in our notebook per day for the notebook check.) Here is what will be checked for today's date. REMEMBER-- notebooks are always due when we have a big Quiz/Test, and are equal to a test grade. You will get a good notice ahead of time as a reminder.

Notebook Check -- November 9, 2015
1. Do Now! What are the seven objects that make up the solar system?
2. Solar System Web - glued in
3. Voyage! of Discovery two questions: Why do we need models to help study the solar system? and How big is the solar system if you could shrink it to one ten-billonth of its actual size?
4. Vocabulary - with definitions.
5. Assess your understanding - pg. 82-87 #1,a,b #2,a,b

Finally Friday :)

Hello All!!

Today was a very relaxed day, since all the kids have been working so hard on Interims all week. We had our (short) quiz, and then we watched Apollo 13! It is a great movie and gets kids thinking about the solar system more.

Those who had missing assignments, ect.. took the time to complete assignments or make fixes on their previous grades (notebook checks, quizzes, etc).

No homework this weekend! Relax, and enjoy one of the last nice weekends outside!

-remember, if you are still trying to up your interactive notebook grade, bring it in MONDAY with all fixes!

See you soon!

Wednesday November 4, 2015

Hello All!

Today I handed out Quiz re-do forms, and told students if they did get that 2.0 or lower they could re-do at home (with a parent signature) and bring back Friday!

There will be a small mini-quiz on Friday on Heliocentric vs. Geocentric Models (pgs. 78-81) in the book will help to study. They also got a review sheet today that they glued into their notebooks.

We did a fun WebQuest today on the computers, which took up most of the hour. Then we watch a short "Intro to the Solar System" video.

See you all Friday!

Remember -- re-do's are due Friday, and there will be that short mini-quiz.

Have a good one!

Mrs. Lechner

Monday November 2, 2015

Good Afternoon!

Today we passed back Quizzes, and went over them, and how the grading system works for me. We also passed back notebooks and notebook check grades.

Quizzes:
- If your student scored a 2.0 or lower, they will have the opportunity to do some re-do questions to get partial credit back on their quiz. The Form will be passed out WEDNESDAY (once all students from all hours have taken the quiz, makeups ect.).
- The directions for the form are on it. REMEMBER -- writing I don't know results in a zero for that question.
- The form needs a parent signature to be valid, and will be stapled to their quiz.
- ALSO -- if they want to re-do the "Moon Phases" portion of the quiz, they will have to come in at lunch on Wednesday to re-do.

Next, we continued on in our "History of the Solar System" Unit. We went through page 4-9 in the Interactive Science book. We watched a youtube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXeEAQtC75g. We also went through some powerpoint slides and did some worksheets on Constellations.

For Homework tonight: (Which we started in class today...)

Make an Illustration that explains apparent motion. You can use figure 3 (pg 8) to help you design your illustration, but you should portray a different subject than a revolving restaurant.
DUE WEDNESDAY!

If you were ABSENT today... come find my notebook and copy down the notes, and as always worksheets we work on are in the black container on my desk.

See you all Wednesday!

Remember, you can always email me with any questions -- 94.hlechner@nhaschools.com

Good Morning!

Today the quizzes will be taken and notebooks turned in (These should be returned on Monday). After this, we will be starting our new shorter Unit: The History of Space. We will be learning specifically today about the Heliocentric and Geocentric Models of the Universe.

No Homework given tonight! Enjoy the long weekend!

Every time we have a big quiz/test I am having a science NOTEBOOK check, so that I can see that we are keeping up on our organization (this will be graded)! Here are the topics that I promised you of what will be checked off in our science notebook on Wednesday: (Reminder students: bolded and underlined items were homework assignments which will be looked at in more depth for a homework grade.)
